Mr. Who

I went to watch Kyla play volleyball in Dimmitt tonight. We won!! Its only the second game we have won so it was really exciting. Kristen's team won as well, so congratulations to both. I have a lot of family that live in Dimmitt, so we had several cousins and aunts there as well as my parents. As i was walking towards the concession stand to get some water a Jr. high girl from Tulia passed me and said "Hello MR. Howell" I immediately turned around to see if my dad was behind me and thought "how does this girl know my dad." To my sad surprise my dad was not behind me, she was talking to me, lots of thoughts went through my head, most of which i will not mention, and i smiled and said back to her "hello." When you are called "Mr." does that meant that you are getting old? As i mentioned in a post that i did called (Things I will never forget) I turned 40 this year, sorta a milestone. When is was in high school, I thought 40 was really old. Since i have turned 40 this year, i have changed my mind, 40 is not that old. I was thinking on the way home tonight about some of the things that i grew up with the last 40 years that are no longer around, wow how things have changed a lot, and just little things. So here are some things that i thought of that have changed or that i sometimes wish were still around.
  1. There was no 3 point line in high school basketball when i played
  2. A rotary phone
  3. Getting up to change the TV channel on a dial!
  4. Comic books
  5. The Carol Burnett show premiered the year i was born 1967
  6. The color television was launched the year i was born 1967
  7. Actually having to roll the window down of a vehicle by HAND???
  8. Not having to worry about locking our doors when we were gone or at night
  9. $1.00 a gallon gas! (how i miss this now)
  10. The type writers that i took typing on when i was a freshman, they had automatic returns on them, we thought they were amazing.
  11. Mullet hair cuts
  12. Garage doors that you actually had to lift by hand
  13. Home work was done on paper with a pencil not copy and paste on a computer.
  14. eight track tapes
  15. record and record players (still have some in our storage building if any of you kids would like to see them)
  16. cokes out of a coke machine were $.25
  17. Returnable coke bottles
  18. High top tennis shoes. (I love to wear high top's and i just can not seem to find any now, am i just looking in the wrong places or what)
  19. The price of these high top tennis shoes, if i ever find them.
  20. Tractors with no cabs. (i am a farm boy, this is a good thing makes farmers lives easier, dad drove one with no cab for a long time when is was a kid, i did as well for a while)
  21. People not in such a hurry.
  22. Double stuffed Oreo cookies
  23. Loony toons (still see them some today. I always wanted to see the coyote catch that roadrunner)
  24. Scooby Doo on Sat. mornings. ( I love Scooby Doo!! Cartoons now are just over my head)
  25. Prayer in School

Well i don't know if this post made any sense to anyone else, but i had fun thinking of all of this stuff. The list could go on and on. Did i leave anything out that anyone can think of, that you remember growing up that is no longer around that you miss?

Wednesday night we will talk about "Giving it to God." I have in the past had problems giving things to God and not worrying about them anymore, so Wed. night we will do an exercises that will hopefully help us "Give it to God." Hope to see all of you there, and hope that you are having a great week. Remember to wake up in the morning knowing that God love's you, and spread that love to others that you meet during the day. Also go check our Jake's new blog at http://www.unyeildingfaith.blogspot.com/ See all of you Wed. night

Mr. Howell,
Your not getting old, you are old. I don't know how you married such a young wife. And I didn't remember any of those things you were talking about, must have been well before my time.
