Award

The above picture is my dad (on the left), the President of the American Quarter Horse Association in the middle, Jack Howell my uncle, and Jimmie Howell, my uncle as well. These three men have a partnership, Howell Brothers Quarter Horses. Last night they received an award for registering a horse with the association every year for 50 years. There are not many that have received this award and we are all very proud of them.
This is my Uncle Jack Howell. He told about how horses have been a part of their lives for so long. He told of the first stud horse that they had called "Rand." They were hauling Rand in a trailer and the trailer turned over and killed the stud. The brothers buried Rand in a corner of their parents yard. Jack told about how the back hoe operator, that dug the grave for Rand, told their parents, (my grandmother and granddad) "those boys care too much for these horses." That told how the Howell Brothers care for their horses, with love. They have always put all that they had into the horses and into the land that they farm west of Dimmitt. I am proud of that, and they put that same kind of love into raising their children as well. This is my dad, he told of many of the horses that were raised by the Howell Brothers, and that many of them became World Champions. My dad was a AQHA judge for many years. I do not know of a single person today that could take one look at a horse and tell you more about it. He loves horses and I can remember going to many horse shows with him as a child to watch him judge. This was the group of us that went to support the Howell Brothers. My mom is on the far right, next to Jack's wife Charleene. Behind Jack is his youngest son Matt, who is a horse trainer and AQHA judge as well. Next to Cheryl is my cousins wife Jennifer and my cousin Kennen, he is Jimmie's oldest son. Next to Jimmie is his wife Sue. We were all very proud to be there with the Howell Brothers, and there were many more of our family that wanted to be there, but just couldn't.

Howell Brothers after the Awards banquet was over. They are very humble men, they did not know if they deserved this award or not, I think that they did. There is a lot of experience in these three men, not just horse experience but experience in life and Christianity. They are three men, that we sometimes call the three wise men. We have always been able to get advice from any of them, and it has always been good. I thank God today that he placed me in the Howell family. I am glad to have been raised by the Howell's and I am proud of the name.
