"Why did you not call that face mask??" I saw her coming, I knew she was mad by the look on her face, I just could not get away. She walked right up to me and said "Why did you not call that face mask?" I politely said, "because I did not see it." She in return said, "well everyone else seen it." I then explained to her that at the next tiger league football game if she would like I would let her borrow my stripped shirt. She told me as she grabbed my stripped shirt, "I don't think that it would fit." I patted her on the shoulder and told her, "I love you and Jesus loves you too." To this response she quickly turned and walked away.
You might have guessed that I refereed a Tiger league football game tonight here in Tulia. This lady, thankfully was not from Tulia. I have reefed a lot of football in the past, I called High School football for a while, but have never had anyone grab at my stripped shirt and basically call me FAT! I told Cheryl that I guess I am going to have to go on a diet. When I started referring football and some basketball, it really made me have a new respect for the game and for the official on the Field or on the court. Everyone sees something different on every play. I really did not see a face mask during the game, but that does not mean that she did not see it, could have been one and I was just not in the spot to see it. I can not call what I do not see. It is funny though how people in the stands can see better than an official on the Field.
I have a Friend that called basketball for years. He was in a little dribblers game and someone in the stands keep calling fouls for him. So at half time my Friend went up in the stands and sat down by this person. When my friend was asked, what he was doing, he said "well you seem to be able to see the game so much better from up here, I just thought I wold call the second half from up here." When I first started calling football my friend that got me into it told me that I had to qualify before becoming a ref. The qualifications were as follows:
- You have to be stupid
- You have to be half blind
I have been called both of these during and after games:
Anyway, I thought that my experience tonight was kinda funny and I would share it with you. I did make me think about how we as adults and young adults should act in front of small children. We have to remember that when we have little ones around they are always watching us.
When I talked with Robin earlier today, she thought that Tell was going to get to come home today. Remember him in your prayers! See all of you Wednesday night. Looking forward to it.
