Prescriptions and a Bible

How do you know what to do for sure? We thought about it and discussed it, we were not sure how it would turn out. We decided to go ahead and let God decide how it would turn out. We bought the prescriptions and a Bible.
We were at Walgreen's in Amarillo Saturday night after going to the hospital with the Rousseau's. This man in a wheel chair came up to me outside with two prescriptions in his hand. He told me that he did not have enough money to buy his prescriptions and he really needed them. Right away I was sceptical, then I thought of the song "what if Jesus came back like that?"
So I found Cheryl and we started talking to the man, and although we could smell some alcohol on his breath he seemed sincere. So we both looked at each other not sure what to do, we nodded at each other and went in to the counter. He gave the Pharmacist the prescriptions and he said it would take about 30 minutes to fill. We were kinda in a hurry and had just had this really good conversation about saving money! We told the Pharmacist to fill them and we would wait.

While we were waiting we got to talking to the man in the electric wheel chair. He told us that he had been electrocuted and had fallen from 24 feet and that was why he was in the wheel chair. He also told us that his wife had left him, and he had gotten an infection and that was what the prescriptions were for. As we waited for the prescriptions to be filled we saw a rack with some Bible's on it. We decided that this man needed some comfort other than the prescriptions. So when the prescriptions were ready we paid for them and a Bible, and put the Bible in the bag with the prescriptions and told him that if he would read it, he would find comfort. He shook our hands and was very grateful. The last time I saw the prescriptions, the Bible and the man they were all three wheeling down 34Th street.

Cheryl and I got in the car and discussed about if what we did was the right thing. We decided that sometimes you just have to do and pray that God will take over the rest. We hopefully planted a seed and I pray that God will make it grow. It was kinda funny, in a weird way, that we were talking about saving money and then this man approached us. I wonder was this a test from God?

  • Was he testing us to see where our success is based:
  • Was he testing us to see if we really trust him:
  • Was he testing us to see if, since we say we are Christians, would we respond as Christians:
  • Or was he showing us how blessed we really are:

I am not sure!

Eben's sermon from Sunday does fit though. Jesus hung out with the poor and the not so fortunate. We felt closer to God after this experience and I pray that this man, where ever he is now, is reading his Bible and finding out about God.

Our class tonight will go a little bit along these lines. We will talk about self worth and what we are made of. We will have a some dirt to play in and run our hands through, so I look forward to seeing each of you in class tonight.
