Where is Home?

If i am asked where my home is, i give directions to my house in Tulia Texas. You have heard the old saying that "Home is where you hang your hat." My hat hangs in a brick house in Tulia and i love where i live. Home might be different places to different people. Think of where home is to a homeless person, it might be a box under a bridge or in a abandoned rail car.

If i look deep into my heart when asked where is home. I think of where i grew up until i was in the 6th grade. My dad had a farm North of Bovina Texas. I think of that section of land as home. Although the house that i lived in is no longer there, it is the place that i remember the most. I go back there from time to time to see how things have changed. A lot of the barns have fallen down, and the tree house that i played in is gone. I have found some of the things that we left behind, like some old bicycle handle bars that are bent up and rusted. They remind me of when i rode my bike up and down the road. There is also an old watering tank there, where the corrals were at. It reminds me of my dad working cattle and raising horses and me watching those cattle and horses drink water out of that old tank. I reminds me of the care and the love that my dad put into this land and into the animals that we had. When i go back there i drive around that section of land that i call home, down the road i find the place where our mail box was at. Where we would go everyday to get our mail. I remember always looking for a letter from my Grandparents. It's funny the things that you remember?? I can still see that mail box standing there just like it was yesterday, why i remember a mail box, i do not know???? I see the place where we buried my dog, and as i turn the corner i can still see my dad out there changing water on his corn crop or plowing on a tractor, just like it was yesterday.

I have really good memories of home, because it was a place where i felt safe, and loved. I guess that is what makes our houses a home, is the love and feeling protected. I pray that i have given my children a home that they will come back to someday and remember because they felt love and safe. I pray that my children's home has a heart, like mine did when i was a child.

I think of our heavenly home. I think of John 14:2!! Christ has prepared a home for me and you. It is a home that will make us feel safe and we will be loved and protected. As good as my home in Bovina was it was nothing compared to the home that I will have in heaven. We are only passing through, heaven is our real home. It will be a place were we can hang our hearts along with our hats.
