Dry bones

The pictures above are of Jeff Robinson and his dog Walker. Jeff is involved in a program called "Dry Bones". Jeff and Walker stayed with us a couple of years ago on his "Walk to Denver." You can check out http://www.drybonesdenver.org/, you can also see Jeff and Walker at http://www.walkingtodenver.com/. We really enjoyed the time that we had with Jeff and Walker. If you go to the web sights you will see that dry bones is a non profit organization that works with homeless youth on the streets of Denver. Jeff and Walker were walking to Denver from Galveston TX, they walked 1,336 miles. They did this to help get the word out about homeless children. The web sight will tell you that a lot of these homeless children end up in Denver because Denver is the gateway to the west, and is the largest city in Colorado. Kids show up in Denver trying to get out west and find other kids that have the same problems that they have and end up staying. The average age of these kids are 12 to mid twenties, and the youngest that they have seen is 10 years old. These kids on the streets sleep in abandoned houses and buildings, in rail cars and parking garages. There is a video on the web sight that i encourage you to watch, its about 10 minutes long. It talks about how dry bones helps these homeless kids and teaches them that there is a God that loves them, no matter what they have done in the past. One homeless kid says on the video about the dry bones people "they don't act religious or like Christians, they are people that you can count on." She will learn that is what Christians are, people you can count on.
It breaks my heart to know that there are young kids out there that do not have a home. I think of how blessed i am to have a home to live in and come home to every night. How blessed i am that i have a family that loves me and that i can come home to. I pray today for these kids in Denver, and i pray for the "dry bones" organization. I should tell you that "dry bones" gets its name from Ezekiel chapter 37. I have not thought about this in a while and do not know really why it came to mind this morning as i was coming to the office, but i thought i would share this with all of you. So go out to the web sight and take a look and pray for these kids today and pray for the work that "dry bones" is doing.
I had a lesson prepared for tonight from Philippians chapter 2. But i think that i will change that and we will study Ezekiel 37 and discuss "dry bones" and discuss our true blessings that we might take advantage of. So before you come to class tonight think of a blessing that you have that these kids do not have. I will do some more research in the next few weeks on "dry bones", maybe there is something we can do as a youth group that will help these kids. We will talk about it later.
We have a busy weekend coming up. Lets remember that Phillip will play football Thursday night at Sanford Fritch, good luck Phillip. We also have a varsity football game on Friday night, Jake, Teddy and Lori will be playing in the band. We will have a youth minister here trying out as well this weekend, he will be at the football game Friday night. Then Saturday evening we will be at our house for hot dogs, starting at 6:00pm till about 8:00pm. Then Sunday after Pot Luck we will go out to Kenneth's to chop wood for the Amarillo Children's home, and then to the lake after that. We really need all of you here Sunday morning to spend time with our youth minister who is trying out. Also next Sunday we will deliver the wood that we chop to the Children's home in Amarillo, this will be great experience for all of us, so make plans to be there. Also remember the Friday lunch at the Church, bring all of your freinds. No one gave me the rest of the verse from yesterday, so i am going to leave it and post another one. Open those Bibles!!! Have a great day!!

John 14:24

He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.

Sorry Matt I did this but did not check to make sure it posted.

Romans 5:8

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

I really enjoyed Jeff and Walker staying with us. What Matt didn't tell you is that Walker the dog had to stay in the house with us, The next morning we could hear Walker drinking his ensure in our kitchen ( slop slop slop), then next thing we knew Walker was in bed with us, Yes you heard it, literally he jumped in bed with us.
You should have seen Matt's face.
Thanks Matt for reminding me of a fun time and the need that Dry bones has!!GREAT POST!
Love ya Cheryl
